# Fortify **Fortify** is a [[buff]] that grants the player 20% less [[damage taken]] from hits for 4 seconds. This does not apply to [[damage over time]], since it does not hit. ## Maximum fortify effect Increasing fortify effect by 400% will provide 100% less damage taken from hits. Up to 404% increased fortify effect can be attained by combining all of the following: - 50% from the master crafted mod <span class="explicitMod">120% increased Effect of Fortify on you while Focussed</span>, but only while you have [[Focus ]] - 50% from a nearby [[Dread Banner]] placed while at maximum stages (or more, depending on how increased [[aura]] effect interacts with the fortify effect provided by this skill) - 60% increased effect from 8 skill tree nodes including [[Rampart]], [[Steadfast]], and 4 small skill nodes - 60% from [[Beacon of Madness]], while affected by [[Glorious Madness]] - 25% from the <span class="explicitMod">25% increased Effect of Fortify on you</span> Crusader mod on a helmet - 25% from a [[Penitent Mask]] helmet base type - 20% from dual-wielded [[Ichimonji]] (may be incompatible with [[Dread Banner]]) - 15% from the mod <span class="explicitMod">15% increased Effect of Fortify on you</span> obtained using [[Essence of Horror]] crafting on an amulet - 10% from 2 small skill nodes in the [[Champion]] ascendancy - 4% from a 20% quality anomalous [[Fortify Support]] - Up to 70% added to passives by the best known roll of [[Lethal Pride]] ## Mechanics <span class="explicitMod">#% less Damage taken</span> modifiers are calculated after [[armour]], [[resistance]]s, and [[endurance charges]]. You can also get a Fortify buff through an amulet anointment called [[Hardened Scars]], which grants Fortify while recovering life from any life/hybrid flask. The effects of Fortify are affected by increased Buff Effect, which can be obtained through [[Ichimonji]] (increased Buff Effect).
