# Temporal Chains
Temporal Chains is a spell that curses all targets in an area, reducing their action speed and making all temporary effects on them expire more slowly.

## Skill functions and interactions **Action speed** Temporal Chains affects the action speed of the target. - **Cap** - The Less Action Speed modifier is capped at 75%. This is a local cap, meaning that it only applies to temporal chains and has no effect on other action speed modifiers. **Slower expiry of temporary effects** Temporal Chains causes temporary effects to expire more slowly, including the curse itself. - The duration listed is already modified to take this into account, so the listed duration on the skill isn't actually changed. (note: The slower expiry is affected by modifiers, that increase or reduce the curse effect. The duration of Temporal Chains is calculated without these modifiers and can be changed this way). - Ailments and debuffs that inflict damage over time will expire more slowly. This does not increase the amount of damage per second, but it may result in higher total damage. - Recovery effects, such as leech and flask recovery, expire more slowly while recovering the same amount per second of whatever resource they provide. - Even though temporary effects last longer due to the fact that they expire more slowly, they do not count as having a longer duration. Instead, in-game time passes more slowly for those effects, causing their duration timer to count down more slowly. In practice, this means that slower expiry is multiplicative with all duration modifiers in terms of how long the effect lasts. - **Cap** - The slower expiry effect is capped at 75%.[4] This is a global cap, meaning all sources of expiration rate are subject to this limitation. **Cursed characters** Characters can curse themselves with temporal chains by using [[Shackles of the Wretched]] or [[Rotblood Promise]] ). They can also become cursed by map modifiers and certain monsters. - **character difference** - Characters have 50% less curse effect than normal. - **duration** - The duration of skills like [[Immortal Call]] and [[Vaal Immortal Call]] will last a longer time, granting longer periods of protection. - **Slow** - Characters will have reduced action speed, unless using [[Kaom's Roots]] or playing a juggernaut with the unstoppable ascendancy passive. It is also possible to use the [[Garb of the Ephemeral]] on [[Animate Guardian]], at the risk of the minion dying and losing his items. These options only remove the downside for characters with no other sources of increased action speed on them. - Map modifiers that curse characters with temporal chains override and therefore remove self casted temporal chains. This can make temporal chains potentially weaker or stronger depending on % curse effect bonus. Temporal Chains can be turned into an aura by linking it with either [[Blasphemy Support]] or [[Awakened Blasphemy Support]].
