# 腐化 **腐化** is a special [[modifiers]]. Corrupted items and [[strongbox]]es cannot be altered further with [crafting orbs](Currency) or restored to an [[Eternal Orb]] imprint, with the exception of [sockets](Item_socket) and [links](Item_socket) of a corrupted item – they can be altered using the [[Crafting Bench]]. ## Appearance **Warning** - Some item corrupting sources have a chance to make an item lose all valuable modifiers. See related pages for more information on each corruption type. ### Corrupting uncorrupted items - Items the player uses a [[Vaal Orb]] on will be corrupted and may be otherwise changed in the process. Items contained within a corrupted [[strongbox]] become corrupted as if a Vaal Orb was used on each of them. - The Altar of Corruption in [[Locus of Corruption]] (Tier 3 Corruption Chamber) at [[the Temple of Atzoatl]] can corrupt an item to add two corrupted implicit modifiers or give it all white sockets, at the risk of destroying the item. Sacrificing a [[Sacrificial Garb]] gives a chance to obtain a [[Shadowstitch]]. - The Lapidary Lens in [[Doryani's Institute]] (Tier 3 Gemcutter's Workshop) at [[the Temple of Atzoatl]] can be used to corrupt a gem twice. It will not roll the same outcome twice (Ex. You can't gain a level 22 skill gem using this method). - [Beastcrafting](CraftingBench#BestiaryRecipe) with a Craicic Vassal lets you corrupt an item and give it 30% quality. - Unique items that are obtained by corrupting another item are, of course, corrupted. These include [[Blood of Corruption]], [[Malachai's Vision]] and certain unique jewels. ### Other corruption sources The corrupted modifier may be found on items, strongboxes, monsters and areas. - Items can drop corrupted from various sources such as Vaal Vessels in [[Vaal side area]]s, corrupted [[strongbox]]es, Corrupting [[Tempest]]s, [[Doryani's Machinarium]], [[Vaults of Atziri]], The Vaal Omnitect, etc. Items that drop corrupted have a significantly higher rarity bonus for affixes, sockets, and links. - [[Vaal skill gem]]s are inherently corrupted, whether found in a [[Vaal Vessel]] or a Gemcutter's strongbox, or crafted using a Vaal Orb. - Various items including [[Thief's Trinket]]s, Talismans, [[Breach Ring]]s, [[Star of Wraeclast]], Leaguestones, [[String of Servitude]], and [[Skin of the Lords]] are inherently corrupted. - Some [[divination card]] sets can be exchanged for corrupted items. - [[Vaal side area]]s are inherently corrupted. This is superficially used to indicate the nature of the area. - Map bosses within areas generated by corrupted maps are also corrupted. Corrupted bosses can drop corrupted items, Vaal skill gems, or Vaal Fragments. ### Implicit modifiers Corrupted modifiers are implicit. Corrupted modifiers will remove an implicit modifier from an item and replace it with the corrupted modifier. Gilded fossils give items an implicit that says item sells for much more to vendors. Items that normally have 1 implicit modifier on them will have 2 implicit modifiers when crafted with a gilded fossil. When corrupting these 2 implicit items, there is a chance that the corrupted implicit will replace the vendor implicit. Because the vendor implicit is not useful (except for selling to vendors), adding it to an item will give it the potential to keep a useful implicit modifier while corrupted. This means items with 1 base implicit have the potential to be stronger when using a gilded fossil on them before corrupting them.
