3+Stationary is a keyword used in the description of various unique items, passive skills, modifiers, and pantheons. It refers to the fact that your character remains located in the same position within a zone without moving for some non-instant period of time.

3-Forbidden Rite is a chaos spell that fires a projectile near your cursor, as well as additional projectiles for each enemy within range. Casting this spell deals a Chaos Damage hit to you based on a percentage of your maximum life and energy shield. This includes when the spell is triggered.
5+## Mechanics
6+Whether you are stationary solely depends on whether your character has remained located in some position in the map for some period of time without moving. There are no exceptions to this rule. If you're character has changed position at all, any cumulative bonuses that gain power the longer you are stationary, such as Soul of Tukohama are reset because your position in the map has changed. However, any effects that give you a persistent bonus for being stationary such as [[Arctic Armour]]'s less fire and physical damage taken while stationary will not be deactivated by instant teleportation skills like [[Flame Dash]], [[Flicker Strike]], or [[Lightning Warp]] because there is no point in time in which you were "moving". In other words, because no time elapses between the point at which the character uses the instant teleportation skill and after when the character arrives at the destination, there is effectively no time at which the persistent stationary bonus is not applying since it is in effect before leaving the initial position and applies immediately after arriving at the destination. Conversely, any bonus that applies "while moving" requires a character to be changing their position in a zone over some non-instant period of time.

5-## Skill Functions and Interactions
6-**Taking Damage**: Whenever the spell is used, including via [[Cast when Damage Taken Support]] or [[Cast On Critical Strike Support]], this spell will cause you to take a hit of Chaos Damage equal to 40% of Maximum Life and 25% of Maximum Energy Shield added together. This damage is considered secondary damage and will trigger on-hit effects and [[Cast when Damage Taken Support]], unlike [[Dark Pact]]. This does not count as a cost. You will take a hit for each repeat of the skill when used with [[Spell Echo Support]] or [[Unleash Support]].

8-**Life Scaling**: Forbidden Rite deals additional damage based on the Maximum Life and Energy Shield of the user of the skill. Temporary buffs to Life or Energy Shield such as Massive Shrines or buffs from [[Headhunter]] will also boost the damage. When used with [[Spell Totem Support]], the damage will scale off Totem Life instead.
9-
10-**Projectiles**: By default, Forbidden Rite fires a projectile near your cursor, as well as additional projectiles for each enemy within range. This means that on single target, two projectiles will hit the enemy. Sources of additional projectiles will only add projectiles to the initial cursor-targeted projectile, and not the extra projectiles fired towards nearby enemies. The projectiles appear to have an expanding ring-based hit distribution, and it is recommended not to get more than +4 additional projectiles from various sources due to the tendency for projectiles to miss on smaller single targets. The projectiles appear to have a homing behaviour and will bend towards targeted enemies. The projectile is ground targeted and does not benefit from Chain, Fork, Split, Piece, or other projectile behaviour modifiers. However, Projectile Speed will greatly reduce the time between casting the skill and the impact of the projectile, improving the clunkiness of the projectile targeting against moving enemies.
11-
12-**Totems**: The totem playstyle is currently very popular with Forbidden Rite because it has several mechanics that bypass or mitigate the downsides while being able to efficiently scale the spell. For example, the unique [[Soul Mantle]] acts as an effective 7-link, and scales Totem Life very well in addition to [[Torchoak Step]], with much higher achievable Life values than self-cast. [[Rain of Splinters]] adds 2 projectiles for lower opportunity cost than [[Volley Support]]. Because the self-damage applies to the totem rather than you, you can also scale Totem Chaos Resistance with the Ancestral Preservation node on Totem Damage [[Medium Cluster Jewel]]s.

10+- If a character were to [[Cyclone]] in place without changing positions within the zone for some period of time, the character would be considered stationary even though cyclone has the movement tag and the character is currently committing an action.
11+- If a characer were to use an instant teleportation skill like [[Flame Dash]] or [[Flicker Strike]] while stationary to some other position and remain stationary at the destination, any cumulative stationary bonus will be reset because your position within the map has changed, i.e. you have moved.
12+- If a character were to use an instant teleportation skill like [[Flame Dash]] or [[Flicker Strike]] while stationary to some other position and remain stationary at the destination, any non-cumulative stationary, i.e. a persistent flat-rate stationary bonus, will effectively remain active because there is no point in time between use of the skill and arrival at destination for you to be considered non-stationary even though you have changed positions within the zone.
13+- If a character were to use an instant teleportation skill like [[Flame Dash]] or [[Flicker Strike]], no "while moving" bonuses will apply because even though the character has moved, there is no discrete point of time during which the character was moving between use of the skill and arrival at destination.
14+- If a character does any action that causes the character to non-instantly change position from one place to another in a zone, "while moving" bonuses will apply during that period in which the character is changing positions.
