    Life

    Life (also called Health or Hit Points) is the health source of a character or monster. For the player it is shown as a red orb in the lower left of the screen and will decrease when receiving damage. Characters die when they reach 0 life and must be resurrected in town. Players can restore life by using flasks, gaining life regeneration from passive skills and equipment, or leeching life from enemies, among other mechanics. Life is fully restored upon entering a town. Light radius is based on current life.

    Every class starts out with 50 life and has the following stats:

    • +10% of Maximum Life to maximum Recovery per Life Leech
    • +12 Maximum Life per Level
    • +20% of Maximum Life to Maximum total Recovery per second from Life Leech

    Calculation

    Total maximum life can be calculated with the following formula:

    Flat life bonuses are added directly to base life (+x to maximum Life). Percent-based modifiers apply to flat life bonuses, as well as base life and life from strength (+x% increased maximum Life). See modifiers.

    Life scaling

    • Strength grants +1 life per 2 strength.

    Certain unique items grant special additional scaling for Life based on other statistics:

    Increasing strength, as well as dexterity if Shaper's Touch are used, will increase maximum life. Increasing attributes in general will also increase life.

    Mechanics scaled by life

    Certain unique items, skills, and ascendancies scale based on maximum life.

    • Righteous Fire deals fire damage over time both to enemies and the caster based on the caster's maximum life and energy shield

    • Bodyswap deals base fire damage based on the caster's maximum life

    Unique items

    • Maligaro's Lens has the unique mod Nearby allies Recover 1% of your Maximum Life when you Die

    Restoring life

    After taking damage, Life may be restored in the following ways:

    • Life and Hybrid Flasks

    • Life Regeneration

    • Life Leech

    • Life Gain on Hit

    • Life Gain on Kill

    • Returning to Town or logging out

    • Certain skills can provide special life regeneration effects:

    Some unique items grant other ways to restore life.

    Like mana and energy shield with Eldritch Battery, life may be spent in the following ways:

    Full life

    Life transforming jewels

    These unique jewels transform life from passive skills into another base statistic.
