1-# Action speed
1+# Charge
2+**Charges** are counters that are represented as glowing orbs around the creature. Charges can also be identified by having a specific silver border around the icon.
23
3-**Action speed** is a [[stat]] that determines how fast or slow a character performs actions, such as running, swinging a weapon, casting a spell, or recoiling from being stunned.
4+There are three types of charge every character can have, each corresponding to a different core [[attribute]]:
45
5-The total modifier to the player character's action speed can be viewed on the Character screen under the Defence tab.
6+- [[Endurance Charge]] are associated with [[strength]].
7+- [[Frenzy Charge]] are associated with [[dexterity]].
8+- [[Power Charge]] are associated with [[intelligence]].
9+
10+Other charges in the game are:
11+
12+- [[Spirit Charges]] from items like [[Lightpoacher]] and [[Hale Negator]]
13+- Divinity Charges from [[Garb of the Ephemeral]]
14+- Void Charges from [[Voidfletcher]]
15+- Siphoning Charges from [[Disintegrator]]
16+- [[Challenger Charge]]s from the [[Arena Challenger]] keystone on the [[Gladiator]] ascendency.
17+- [[Blitz Charge]]s from [[Blitz]] keystone on the [[Berserker]] ascendency.
18+- [[Inspiration Charge]]s from [[Inspiration Support]]
19+- [[Blood Charges]]s from [[Reap]]
20+
21+Three alternative charges from belts dropped from Maven
22+
23+- [[Arn's Anguish]]'s [[Brutal Charges]] (replaces endurance charge)
24+- [[Olesya's Delight]]'s [[Affliction Charges]] (replaces frenzy charge)
25+- [[Graven's Secret]]'s [[Absorption Charges]] (replaces power charge)
26+
27+Each type of charge grants different bonuses. Charge bonuses increase proportional to the number of accumulated charges of that type.
628
729 ## Mechanics
30+Charges are accumulated by the use of certain skills and equipment, and have a duration of ten seconds by default. This duration can be increased or decreased with specific passive skills and unique items. Gaining a charge resets the duration of all accumulated charges of the same type.
831
9-A character's action speed determines the relative rate at which its animations play, thereby affecting the overall speed that their actions are performed. All of the character's actions that have an animated component are affected by their action speed. This includes moving, attacking, casting spells, throwing traps and mines, shouting warcries, summoning totems, and recovering from stuns.
32+### Maximum charges
33+By default, characters can accumulate a maximum of three charges of each type. This limit can be raised or lowered with certain passive skills and equipment. If the character would gain a charge while already at the limit for that type of charge, no additional charge will be gained; however, the duration of all charges of that type will still be reset.

11-Modifiers to action speed have a multiplicative effect on a character in conjunction with stats that affect the speed of specific actions, such as [[movement speed]], [[attack speed]], [[cast speed]] and [[stun]] recovery. Action speed does not directly modify such stats though. This distinction is relevant for game mechanics that care about what those stats are. For example, the brand activation frequency of [[Arcanist Brand]] is affected by modifiers to the character's cast speed; it is not affected by modifiers to the character's action speed.
35+Maximum number of charges can also be lowered by the following sources:
1236
13-Some [[monster]]s have a minimum action speed %. This prevents them from ever reaching zero action speed.
37+- [[Fragility]]

17-### Active skill gems
41+- [[Powerlessness]]
1842
19-- [[Temporal Chains]]
43+- [[Ahn's Heritage]]
2044
21-The following skills from items affects action speed:
45+- [[Ahn's Might]]
2246
23-- [[The Flow Untethered]]:[[Summon Harbinger of Time]]
24-- [[The Torrent's Reclamation]]:[[Summon Greater Harbinger of Time]]
25-- [[The Eternity Shroud]]:[[Glimpse of Eternity]]
26-- [[Worldcarver]]:[[Arcane Wake]]
47+- [[Ahn's Contempt]]
2748
28-### Ailments
49+With 0 maximum charges, modifiers with "at maximum charge" will be permanently active, since 0/0 charge is technically considered to be at maximum charges. However, 0/0 charge would not trigger "reaching maximum charge" effect.
2950
30-- [[Chill]] is capped at 30% reduced action speed. [[Winterweave]] is capped at 30% increased action speed.
31-- [[Freeze]] reduces action speed to zero, which means they will not move at all.
51+### Minimum charges
52+Certain mods grant +X to Minimum Endurance/Frenzy/Power Charges, causing your character to always have that amount of charges.
53+
54+Skills and effects that consume charges to activate an effect cannot use these minimum charges. For example, using [[Flicker Strike]] with +1 to Minimum Frenzy Charges at 1 Frenzy charge will never use that charge to remove its cooldown.
55+
56+Maximum charges will take priority over minimum charges (Ex. With -2 to maximum charges and +2 to minimum charges, you will have 1 charge).
57+
58+### Totems
59+Totems are able to gain Endurance charges but not Frenzy and Power charges. Since these charges would not have any effect on totems, the maximum Frenzy and Power charges on totems is zero. However, Frenzy and Power charges on the owner of the totems can affect the skills used by totems since their values are based on the user's stats.
