Defences
Defences is a keyword that refers to armour, evasion rating, energy shield, and ward. While armour, evasion rating, energy shield are referes as "Standard Defences" in the help text of Skin of the Lords
Outside those Defences, there are other item mods and skills that increase the survivability and reduce damage taken of the player character. There are also other attributes listed in the "Defence" tab of the character screen.
"Defences," as for mods like #% increased Global Defences and #% increased Defences from Equipped Shield, only refers to Armour, Evasion rating, Energy Shield, and Ward, and not for example resistance, dodge, or block, etc.
The #% increased Defences stat applies additively with mods that globally increase individual Defences, such as #% increased maximum Energy Shield. This means that if you allocate Deflection for 40% increased Defences from Equipped Shield and you have a total of 120% increased energy shield from other sources, then your total energy shield multiplier for the shield will be 160% increased or 2.6. It will not first increase the base energy shield of the shield by 40% (1.4) then increase that by 120% (1.4 * 2.2) to make 208% increased or 3.08.
