Recovery

Recovery refers most often to Life, Mana or energy shield recovery. All gaining of life, mana and energy shield is considered recovery. Generic sources of recovery can be found for example in flasks but is not unique to it.

There are multiple types of recovery, for example:

Modifiers to Recovery affect all of the above sources, though this modifier is extremely rare currently. The more common modifier, Recovery Rate, applies to any form of recovery over a non-zero duration. Most modifiers to Recovery Rate, such as Patient Reaper or "of Smothering" map modifiers are actually a misnomer, and affect the recovery (the amount gained over time) but do not modify duration (e.g. Leech, Recoup, flasks, etc.). According to a GGG developer, this modifier was initially intended to be increased recovery per second; however, was changed to the simpler (but technically wrong) Recovery Rate.

Interestingly, recovery rate modifiers that can roll on Flasks as well as Flask Recovery Rate/Speed modifiers (like from Belly of the Beast or Herbalism) will make you recover the same total amount over a shorter period of time.
