Bladefall
Bladefall is a physical spell that causes ethereal blades to rain from the sky, dealing damage to enemies in a sequence of volleys, each wider but less damaging than the last. Enemies can be hit multiple times where these overlap.
Skill functions and interactions
Waves: Casting the spell summons five cascading waves of blades, with each wave dealing damage once (6% less damage per wave after the first), and each falling one wave's width further than the last (there is no space in between waves where damage is not dealt). Enemies can be knocked back by this skill or others, allowing for the possibility of multiple hits. The first wave of the spell will always fall where the player points the cursor on cast.
Lingering Blades: Each wave of Bladefall leaves behind a Lingering Blade on the ground. These blades can be detonated with Blade Blast or animated with Animate Weapon. Lingering Blades have a duration of 6 seconds. Bladefall will leave 50% less blades if the skill is not directly cast (e.g. Cast On Critical Strike Support).
Physical spell: Despite the fact that it does physical damage, Bladefall is a spell and not an attack. It does not utilize weapon damage in any way. Because Bladefall deals physical damage, it can be boosted by support gems and passive skills that are more commonly used to modify attacks, such as the Added Fire Damage Support gem or the Hatred aura. Bladefall is one of several skills that work in this manner, some others beingEthereal Knives, Shockwave Totem, and Blade Vortex.
Area of effect: Increases and reductions to area of effect apply to the area of each volley and their spacing. Increasing area of effect will increase total coverage but potentially lower overlap on one enemy. Reducing area of effect can increase DPS due to the constant size of enemy hitboxes.
