Item mechanics
The Three Dragons modifies the element required to inflict the four elemental Status Ailments: Shock, Ignite, Chill, and Freeze. Normally, the duration or effectiveness of these ailments depend on the amount of respective elemental damage of the hit that triggered them, but with Three Dragons the appropriate damage type for each ailment is changed as detailed in the item's description.
This item does not convert stats or modifiers in any way, including modifiers such as "5% chance to Ignite". For example, if an enemy is struck by fire damage without Three Dragons it has a chance to be ignited based on the fire damage dealt equal to the sum of all "chance to Ignite" modifiers the player has. If the same hit is performed with Three Dragons equipped, the player may inflict a shock ailment based on the amount of fire damage dealt equal to the sum of all "chance to Shock" modifiers. This hit can no longer ignite the target (unless it also deals cold damage) and is therefore not affected by "chance to Ignite" modifiers in any way.
Three Dragons prevents the player from applying Chill with cold damage, but does not allow the player to chill with lightning damage effectively disallowing the player from inflicting chill by dealing damage. You can still inflict chill on enemies by creating chilled ground, by using a source that directly chills enemies such as The Pandemonius or Arctic Armour, or by altering what types of damage can chill, such as with Callinellus Malleus or Dyadus.
If equipped while the character has the Elemental Conflux buff, the damage from the hit will apply all status ailments that are not specifically excluded by the Three Dragons. This means hits of fire damage will shock and chill but not ignite, hits with cold damage will ignite and shock but not freeze or chill, and hits with lightning will chill and ignite but not shock.
