Minion

Minions are allied monsters summoned by the player. Minions have their own damage and their actions are treated completely separate from the summoner's. Minion damage is affected by Minion Damage Passive skill s, some unique items, support gems linked to the minion skill gem, auras and Necromantic Aegis. Of particular note, support gems will support the attacks and spells of the minion if the skill is relevant. Minions can critically strike but cannot proc Cast on Critical Strike. Unlike totems, minions can gain charges.

When a minion kills an enemy, the player is partially rewarded with the kill. This means:

  • The player gains flask charges
  • The player's IIQ and IIR is added to the minion's support gems values to calculate drops.

Totems, traps and mines are not counted as minions, they are remote skills.

Minion Targeting

Although minions can't be commanded directly, they can be directed by user actions to attack targets. Attacking an enemy with a skill will force minions to prioritize that target.

This is useful because minions tend to be passive otherwise and only attack targets nearby, or even move with the player instead of attacking foes.

Summoned Skeletons and Raging Spirits ignore the player's actions entirely and just aggressively attack enemies within their aggro range, and Raging Spirits also first attempt to attack targets which are not already being targeted by other Raging Spirits. The aggro range of Skeletons seems to be much larger than that of Raging Spirits.

Aggressive and Defensive

Minions can have their default behavior changed by making them Aggressive or Defensive. Aggressive minions will focus on attacking any enemies within aggro range and will not move with the player. Defensive minions will focus on staying close the the player and only attack enemies near the player. If a minion is made both Aggressive and Defensive, it will cancel each other out (this can be useful if one wants the gain the Taunt chance from Meat Shield Support and use Feeding Frenzy Support to still have the minions aggro from a normal range).

Signal Prey

  • Predator Support causes all supported minions to focus only on the targeted enemy, overriding all other behaviours.

Minion Modifiers

Neither passive skills nor stats from the player's Equipment affect minions unless they specifically state "Minions _____".

Life flasks with the "of Animation" suffix will heal minions life by 40-60% of the flasks recovery. This effect works even when the player has full life or Chaos Inoculation. If a player has equipped Umbilicus Immortalis - flasks effects apply to their spectres and zombies.

Minion Damage

  • Damage Types - Zombies, Animate Guardian, Animate Weapons, Holy Relic, Sentinels of Dominance, Sentinels of Purity, Skeletons and Stone Golems deal physical damage, Spectres and Dominated deal whatever damage they did before they died, Raging Spirits deal physical damage of which 50% is converted to fire (much like Infernal Blow), and the four other Golems do damage in accordance with their names (chaos, fire, cold, lightning).
  • Critical strikes - Most minions have a base critical strike chance of 5% and a base critical strike multiplier of 1.3 times the damage. Raise Spectre and Animate Weapon are capable of creating exceptions to these previous 2 rules. Minions gain the charge benefits of monsters, which means each power charge is +200% increased critical strike chance.
